After a stop over in Jozi airport and the most amazing strawberry and banana smoothie with nachos on the side...yummy!!! ..well then i ventured to Zambia and the mighty Victoria Falls.
My new friend Jennifer from Perth and I spent a massive 8 hours hanging around at the falls. We viewed it from every direction and angle possible, and the photos i have captured are amazing and i cant wait to blow some of them up once im home.
The falls is split in to many different waterfall names starting on the Zambia side with the Eastern Cateract, then Armchair Falls, Raindow Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Main Falls and Devils Cateract. We first viewed the Boiling pot which is at the base of the falls where the rapids begin, and we then ventured across the knife edge bridge and viewed the falls up close.
Our walk up stream of the river, was amazing and involved a method of all linking hands to avoid the water knocking us over. We crossed many small sections of the Zambezi river and then walked right up to the edge of the falls and looked down in to the gorge and the Boiling pot below.
A rainbow had appeared which disappeared right into the water below. AMMAZING! We also got to swim right on the falls edge in the Angles Armchair plunge pool which is over 11m deep.
We also had the chance to see the sunset, which occured rigt behind the Main falls, making the water look like crystal and the stream turn orange.
The whole expereince was so overwhelming andit will be memories forever. I honestly cant think of enough adjectives to describe how amazing Victoria Falls is. It is also the 8th consectutive waterfall creation, with signs of the 9th waterfall already started to be created by the Devils Catercact, which my pilot pointed out to me when i flew over the mighty falls the next morning during sunrise.
Seeing the falls from the air was a great experience and actually showed the grand scale, also the Zimbawee side of the falls i had not clearly seen as there was so much spray that the Devils Cateract was not visible from the island view point.
Flying in the microlight was brillint, with no straps to hold me in and only the air resistance forcing me in to my seat. I was only in the air 20minutes but that was enough to view the Zambezi river and loop around the falls and see hippos and giraffe and elephants in the surrounding bush land. It was very cold and wet up there!
After the microligh i just bumped into 3 elephants. It was CRAZY! They were massive and just like 3m in front of me. I was like OMG i cant believe how amazing this day has been and it was only 8.30am.
A lifetime experience and the photos willhopefully remind me of how breathtakeing it was, and its so beauiful especialy when rainbows form off the water spray.
